Vladimir Nasonov
back

Vladimir Nasonov was born in St. Petersburg in 1957. The life and work of painters in the Soviet Union prior to 1986 were not easy. The absence of freedom, the impossibility to create paintings that were not answering the requirements of the official dogmatic doctrine of soviet realism, and prohibition to freely sell their own work made the life of painters challenging and complex. But the strong spirit of Vladimir Nasonov endured. He held true to his calling as a painter of impressionism, at times at a great cost.

City landscapes of Paris are of Nasonov’s most accomplished works, not Paris of the present, but the past; paintings which reflect the emotions and lifestyles from the turn of the century, the markets, the women, the street life, and often in the rain. Nasonov receives acclaim for his special talent to convey the spirit of the great Russian literature and It’s folk tales depicted in his paintings of the rich rural life of Russia and the magic of his winter landscapes.
