Born in Madrid, Spain in 1955, Juan Calderon Padilla is a self taught artist. Padilla is a painter with great talent, who has a tendency for using reds, yellows and greens with an exceptionally good control of light, especially it’s reflections on rainy days. He paints beautiful countryside landscapes and seascapes with wonderful depth. Padilla is a poet of color. “I have wanted to shape and color feeling in order to watch it and feel it”, says Padilla.

Padilla is also a plein air painter. As a romantic painter of places, he searches the world for scenes of sunlight and color. Not surprisingly, Padilla’s success as a painter has grown out of his personal love of natural beauty. As a painter, he values directness and spontaneity. He approaches the canvas with passion and intensity in an effort to convey a vibrant sense of light.

It becomes evident in examining his career that he majority of his work depicts a particular time of day. It can be dawn, noon or dusk but the sun is always present.

“Without the sun there is no light, color or beauty. Thus I am drawn to landscape where beauty unabashedly exudes the fullness of light”
