Andrei Selenin belongs to a special breed of artists whose work is known world-wide for excellence. Russian artists have a way of combining technical genius and a strength of culture and personality to create powerful art. The young artist Selenin shares this lineage. Selenin’s ability to model objects with wide, daring brushstrokes places him at the forefront of modern Russian masters. His touch feels light and spontaneous while his rendering of sunlight and his vivid coloration create dazzlingly virtuoso interpretations of life. The paintings hold both ephemeral beauty and a quality of reality that one seeks in both life and art.Andrei Selenin was born to a fisherman’s family, and his upbringing gave him an appreciation for the elemental side of life. Deciding at age 16 to become an artist, he painted with artist friends and trained with private teachers who lived in his area.

He began his formal art studies at the Kharkov Art Institute in the Ukraine and continued on at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. There, in this world-class city of fine arts, grand museums, and celebrated architecture, he worked and studied with some of Russia’ most talented painters. The beauties of St. Petersburg’s imperial past and the city’s great collections of art from the best Russian and European masters offered a rich milieu for the painter.

A lover of fine objects, Selenin had long made it his habit to search through wayside markets for beautiful pieces he could use in his still lifes. Today, from his home near Moscow, he continues to seek out objects that inspire him in order to create his own stunning works of art.Only in his thirties, Selenin already has gained a reputation both in his country and abroad for his painting ability and personal aesthetic. The technical expertise the Russians are so famous for is apparent in his composition and brush work. Yet beyond technicality lies the real appeal of Selenin’s art: his bold use of his skills to translate reality into pure essence, one that is perceived by the senses while communicated to the spirit.

Selenin’s Russian soul and formidable talent place him in the vanguard of a new generation of artists, those who have gone beyond tradition to create their own unique language of art.
